Male Hormone Imbalance:

As men age they accept the changes in their bodies, sleep patterns and energy levels as part of the aging process or “just getting old”. What they don’t realize is that most of these male “aging” symptoms are caused by a testosterone or hormone condition that develops in their body called Male Hormone Imbalance. Male Hormone Imbalance can affect testosterone, cortisol and thyroid hormone levels in a man’s body. While Male Hormone Imbalance can increase over time, it’s affected by many factors besides age.

Factors Outside of Age that Can Cause Male Hormone Imbalance

  • Diet

  • Activity Level

  • Stress

  • Injuries

  • Genetics

  • Medications

Male Hormone Imbalance is caused by declining testosterone and growth hormone levels in men and can occur at any age. On average, growth hormones in men decrease by 14% per decade after the age of 20. By age 40 the average male only retains half of the growth hormones he had at 20. By age 80 men have only 5% of their original growth hormones.

Why Hormones are Important

Hormones are important to the human body. Without them, the body can’t function properly. They serve as messengers between systems in the body that control a person’s physiology and behavior. Systems such as digestion, metabolism, respiration, tissue function, stress, movement, growth, mood and reproduction are all regulated by hormones. So when the levels of the male hormone, testosterone, go down and are out of balance, it can affect several areas of a man’s overall health.

The symptoms of Male Hormone Imbalance tend to come on gradually and are often ignored or even misdiagnosed. In many cases it’s not until the symptoms begin altering their way of life that most men begin seeking treatment. There are hundreds of symptoms related to male Hormone Imbalance. Some symptoms are more common than others.

Common Symptoms of Male Hormone Imbalance

  • Erectile Dysfunction

  • Depression

The 4 common types of Male Hormone Imbalance:

  • Andropause

  • Adrenal fatigue

  • Hypothyroidism

  • Hyperthyroidism

Andropause. This occurs when testosterone levels decline. Male Menopause is another common term for this condition. This is the most common type of Male Hormone Imbalance.

Adrenal fatigue. High stress levels over a prolonged time period cause adrenal glands to decrease production of the stress hormone cortisol.

Hypothyroidism. If the thyroid gland becomes underactive, thyroid hormones will lower in production.

Hyperthyroidism. Increased metabolism happens when a man has an overactive thyroid and increased thyroid hormones.

Sometimes simple changes in a man’s diet, exercise regimen and/or overall lifestyle can reverse some of the symptoms of Male Hormone Imbalance. However, doing this may only bring limited, short-term results.

Getting Tested and Treated for Male Hormone Imbalance

While this all sounds awful, the plus side is that Male Hormone Imbalance, and its common symptoms, are testable, treatable and correctable. Through treatment, symptoms will decrease and often disappear, allowing men to be rejuvenated and feel more youthful.

At NuMale the treatment of choice is Bioidentical Testosterone Replacement Therapy. The term bioidentical means the testosterone being used will be an exact match of the hormone produced in the male body in chemical makeup and molecular structure. Bioidentical Testosterone Replacement Therapy involves putting testosterone pellets the size of a Tic-Tac under the skin. The pellets slowly dissolve, infusing hormones into the body. This therapy can usually begin the same day of the patient’s first visit after their testosterone and estrogen levels are tested. The procedure is a quick, painless in-office procedure with effects that are felt within days and results that last 5-6 months.
